OIWC Hosts Five February Events Focusing on Change Assessment
Regardless
of where you live, OIWC is hosting an event for you focused on Change
Assessment, including everything from the BIG changes to the seemingly
mundane ones.
No matter the scope of the 'change,' people react,
respond and adjust in six stages. By understanding the six stages, as
well as where you fall in the cycle, you will be better equipped to
select the right strategy and actions that will help you move forward in
a healthy and productive manner.
For these events (and throughout 2012 educational
events) OIWC will utilize the Change Cycle Locator Assessment. The
assessment helps you identify your current stage in the change cycle and
assists you in asking the right questions. It can be used over and over
again as a way to measure your progress or to help assist you in
different life changes.
February 15, 11:30am mountain / 1:30pm eastern: Webinar with Change Leader Lea Belair Join OIWC and Lea Belair, a visionary leader in transformational change, for an ‘out of the box' webinar
based on the research and ancient wisdom that in order for people to
do/be differently they must have a ‘direct experience'. This webinar
will be more than just informational - Lea will be taking a coaching
approach and engage participants through Q&A, dialog, and
experiential content.
As
an experienced coach, consultant, trainer and facilitator, Lea knows
that successful transformation lands when the tasks, activities,
meetings and communications of individuals and teams mirror the vision
for change. She is a certified Change Cycle trainer delivering training
to government, for profit and educational audiences since 2009. Lea is
also faculty and curriculum author at the University of Vermont.
February 28, 4:30pm: Network Nights in Four Locations
At these events, members will take the Change Cycle
Locator Assessment (if purchased prior to the event) and discuss their
results. In addition, each event features time for networking, food and
drinks, gifts from event hosts, and tours of the facilities. Event
locations include:
Portland (Host needed! Email if your company is interested in hosting.)

Life is change. Growth is optional. Choose wisely.
Change.
It’s all around us, every day. Take, for instance, the change from 2011
to 2012. How many resolutions did you make this week? "In
2012 I will workout more, I will become more focused on my family, I
will look for a new job, I will get a handle on my stress level.”
Thoughts this time of the year lean heavily towards
"change.” In fact, every year, we promise ourselves that something we
are currently doing needs to be done differently. We concentrate on
changing our behavior, our habits, doing more, doing less. We vow to
"change.” And often we fail…why? Because we are asking ourselves to do
the one thing our body is hardwired to NOT do….change.
Don't Miss the OIWC Breakfast & Award Presentations at ORWM and SIA
No matter what your schedule looks like for Outdoor Retailer and SIA, be sure to clear space from 7-9am on Saturday (Day 3)
at both shows. You don't want to miss the opportunity to hear the
inspirational keynote speakers, plus support the winners of the
Pioneering Woman and First Ascent Awards.
ORWM: Keynote speaker Donna Carpenter (President, Burton) discussing "Where are all the women? Why diversity is good for business"
SIA: Keynote speaker Gwen Manto (EVP & Chief Merchant, The Sports Authority) discussing "Choosing your Success: Why Gender Doesn't Matter"

An Interview with SheJumps: It's All About Inspiration
SheJumps
co-founders Lynsey Dyer and Vanessa Pierce, along with executive
director, Claire Smallwood, are doing an impressive job of living up to
their own inspired expectations, but also defining the term for a
generation of female outdoor enthusiasts.
In a recent interview with OIWC, all three women
chimed in about the role of a collaborative community, how inspiration
plays in their own everyday lives, and making sure SheJumps helps to
bring about change for women who, without their help, may never have
ventured outside.
OIWC Welcomes Seven New Members to its Board of Directors
OIWC is pleased to welcome seven extraordinary volunteers to its Board of Directors. The newly elected Board members -- Michele Flamer, Beth Gordon, Deanne Buck, Sharon Scott, Meaghan Cunningham, Alice Gifford, and Laura Schaffer—join
17 current members, broadening the skill set and reach of the Board of
Directors extensively. In addition, two current members, Ali Sacash-Johnson and Lu Setnica, transitioned to new roles on the Board.
Board members were selected as part of OIWC’s
strategic focus on growing the organization’s business acumen and
technical skills (i.e. a website specialist, fundraising, etc.) and
recruiting leaders with excellent communication skills and the ability
to influence and impact our industries. Each incoming Board member
brings their unique skills and talents, creating a diverse group of
volunteers with the same goal: provide advocacy, education and resources
for women in the outdoor, bike and snowsports industries.
Julie Harris, OIWC President-Elect commented, "The
Executive Committee, Staff and several Committee Chairs have spent the
last two months reviewing nominations, interviewing, checking references
and selecting this extraordinary group of talented professionals. It is
with great excitement that we welcome these new members to the OIWC
Board of Directors.”
