Mark your Calendar: OIWC Breakfast & Awards Presentation Featuring Donna Carpenter, President and Co-Owner of Burton Snowboards
Join OIWC at its first ever Breakfast & Awards Presentation!
Aimed at opening discussion and dialogue around gender-related issues in
the workplace, the OIWC Breakfast features keynote speakers who are
leaders in and out of the outdoor industries. In addition, two women in
the industry will receive OIWC Leadership Awards, recognizing their
leadership and inspiration to others.
The Breakfast & Awards Presentation at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market features Donna Carpenter, President and Co-Owner of Burton Snowboards, sharing her thoughts on Where are all the women? Why diversity is good for business.
WHERE: Marriott across from the Salt Palace, Salt Lake City UT
Over 10 years ago, Donna
became aware that the need for women, as employees and as customers, was a
bottom line issue for her business.
Whether considering the need to recruit and retain female employees or
to reach out to female consumers, Donna knew that women were critical to
the success of Burton.
To give Outdoor Retailer attendees a glimpse of what to expect during
her presentation, Donna shared some of Burton's programs and theories
around diversity in the workplace. Read the full article, and mark
your calendar for the OIWC Breakfast & Awards Presentation.

Join the Fun at SIA: RAMP IT UP is Back! Model registration now open for Ramp It Up (January 26 in Denver CO)
RAMP
IT UP, a fundraiser for OIWC, is back again at SIA.2012. Last year's

it again!

putting energy behind making high-quality women's-specific products.
This is your opportunity to showcase your women's products and your
brand in a FUN, ENERGETIC, and ATTENTION-GETTING way.

Life Coach Amy Magyar believes in
living an authentic life all of the time. For her, this means getting outside
and playing as much as possible. She advocates "participating in life, instead
of living outside of it” and her favorite activity is "breathing outside” – she
likes to chase after her dog, practice yoga and just be out doors.

leadership and inspiration. Now is your opportunity to help determine
who receives this honor - submit a nomination for an OIWC Leadership

The Pioneering Woman Award,
created in 2002 and celebrating its 10th anniversary during the January
trade shows, honors a woman who has demonstrated a commitment to
mentoring female colleagues while paving the way for other women.
Created in 2005, the First Ascent Award
complements the Pioneering Woman Award by recognizing women who are in
the beginning stages of their career and already showing strong
leadership skills.
The recipients of the outdoor awards will be recognized during
Outdoor Retailer, and the recipients of the snowsports awards will be
recognized during SIA. To be eligible to receive the awards, nominees

Over the years, OIWC has become
the expert on gender issues in our industries. We’ve thought
strategically about how to approach these issues, and now we are ready
to set our sights on a very big, hairy, and audacious goal:
Respect, Inclusion and Gender Equality in the Outdoor, Bike, and Snowsports Industries
To reach this goal, over the next 10 years, OIWC will:
Identify the gender-related issues in the outdoor industries
Educate the industry on these issues
Provide a venue through which
individuals and companies can ask questions, build a network, and find
solutions to these issues, creating open and honest dialogue around
sensitive topics
Work with the industry to
implement solutions by showcasing best practices and case studies,
hosting workshops, forums and keynote speakers, helping companies build
Women’s Leadership programs, and more
We know we can make a difference in our industries. We believe that in 10 years, if the financial resources are available, we can lead true social change. Our
industries are primed and ready, and OIWC has developed the
relationships and reach needed to succeed. We have the plans in place,
the team in place, the partners in place, and we are ready to go for it.
We need YOU to make this social change happen. To reach these
audacious goals, we need men and women at the table, industry newbies
and seasoned veterans. We need your voice, your experience, and your wisdom. And, we need your financial investment. OIWC
cannot make social change happen without money. Period. Nonprofits need
money to operate, just like a business, and for nonprofits, that money
comes from its supporters like you.
