Invest in Social Change: Donate to OIWC
You
know that in our industries—and in our world—women have made great
strides in the workplace. But as you look around, you also know that we
still have work to do. A lot of work.
Very few of these women have made it to the top of our
industry’s companies. You probably know women who have been dismissed,
overlooked, or blatantly harassed. You may know others (or maybe you
feel it in yourself) who don’t put their hand up, defer to the men in
the room, or don’t have the confidence to push through the glass
ceiling.
And you
know this isn’t just a women’s issue. True gender equality will never be
possible until men also feel that they can make decisions based on
their passion, not their gender.
It is time to move past gender stereotypes for men and women, and envision success: social change for our industries. And with your investment in OIWC, we know we can succeed.
OIWC and YOU: Pioneering Spirit and Leadership
As one of the over 4,000 professionals who has opened your busy
life to Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition, we invite you to take a
moment and reflect on the successes you have supported over the years.
Together,
we have created an exponentially growing network of professionals and
resources aimed at helping women reach their career goals. Spanning the
outdoor, bike and snowsports industries, six regions throughout the
country, hundreds of companies, and thousands of individuals, your
investment in OIWC has helped us move beyond the lofty goals we set just
five years ago.
Now, we invite you to join forces as OIWC looks ten years down
the road, with our sights set on the next big goal: true social change
for our industries.
The Next 10 Years: Invest in Social Change
As a professional, you understand that in order to succeed, you
need to do research, think strategically, build a plan, find funding for
your endeavor, and then go for it.
OIWC is no different. Over the years, OIWC has become the expert
on gender issues in our industries. We’ve thought strategically about
how to approach these issues, and now we are ready to set our sights on a
very big, hairy, and audacious goal:
Respect, Inclusion and Gender Equality in the
Outdoor, Bike, and Snowsports Industries
To reach this goal, over the next 10 years, OIWC will:
- Identify the gender-related issues in the outdoor industries
- Educate the industry on these issues
- Provide
a venue through which individuals and companies can ask questions,
build a network, and find solutions to these issues, creating open and
honest dialogue around sensitive topics
- Work
with the industry to implement solutions by showcasing best practices
and case studies, hosting workshops, forums and keynote speakers,
helping companies build Women’s Leadership programs, and more
We know we can make a difference in our industries. We believe that in 10 years, if the financial resources are available, we can lead true social change. Our
industries are primed and ready, and OIWC has developed the
relationships and reach needed to succeed. We have the plans in place,
the team in place, the partners in place, and we are ready to go for it.
There is just one piece missing: money.
Because
you are a professional, OIWC is not going to try to sell you with the
standard fundraising language most nonprofits use. We are not going to
send you a mug if you send us a donation. We are not going to spend
thousands of dollars asking you for more money just because you were
insightful enough to send in one donation.
Instead, we are asking you, as one of the 4,000 people who have
already rallied around OIWC, to make an investment in social change.
We need YOU to make this social change happen. To reach these
audacious goals, we need men and women at the table, industry newbies
and seasoned veterans. We need your voice, your experience, and your wisdom. And, we need your financial investment. OIWC
cannot make social change happen without money. Period. Nonprofits need
money to operate, just like a business, and for nonprofits, that money
comes from its supporters like you.
You have the power to affect social change by investing in OIWC.
Donate today, and get ready to watch your investment grow.
All donations are 100% tax-deductible. Donate online
with a credit card, or fill out the online form and let us know that
you'll be sending a money order / check. Credit card donations can also
be split into multiple payments (for example, split a $200 donation into
10 payments of $20 each). If you have any questions about donating, email or call us at 303-594-3456.
OIWC Announces 2012 Theme: Leading & Navigating Change
The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new. -Socrates
Every year,
OIWC selects a Professional Development theme based on feedback from its
members. For 2012, the theme is one that is relevant to every member,
no matter what your life or work situation is: Leading & Navigating
Change. This theme will carry through regional events, webinars, trade
show events, newsletter articles, and more, providing you with a
multitude of tools to help you lead and navigate the changes in your
life.
Change is inevitable.
And no matter what the change -- from seemingly simple to blatantly big
-- the goal is to navigate it so you emerge on the other side with a
positive outcome. Throughout 2012, OIWC will utilize The Change Cycle
model, which identifies the thoughts, feelings and behaviors associated
with the stages of change. OIWC has enlisted professional change agents
who will lend their knowledge on the Change Cycle during the year.
OIWC members manage various types of change, both professional
(company changing ownership or changing strategies, job promotions, job
losses, relocation, travel, new bosses, and new employees) and personal
(marriage, divorce, illnesses, having children, caring for parents,
buying new houses and more). OIWC will address various types of change
and how to approach them throughout the year with these four quarterly
focuses:
- Q1: Assessing Change:
Study the Change Cycle Locator to pinpoint where you are in the change
cycle. By having a better understanding of the cyclical nature of change
you will be better equipped to navigate thru the process. The Locator
can be used over and over as a way to measure your progress.
- Q2: Change for Yourself:
How do you know if it’s time for a job change? How do you know if it’s
time for a personal change? You will use the knowledge from the Locator
assessment to select the best strategies and actions for your personal
and professional growth. Through online and regional events, you will
also hear from industry leaders on how they deal with change for
themselves.
- Q3: Change for your Team:
How do you manage challenging changes within your team? How do you
initiate and lead change when you see it’s needed? Using the Locator
assessment you will learn how best to navigate a team change and clearly
identify the real issues at hand.
- Q4: Change for your Business: How
do you initiate and lead a change that affects so many people? How can
you consciously navigate thru change while taking the right actions for
your business? Emotions which accompany so many of life changes can harm
your business or organization. Learn thru the Locator assessment,
industry experts and other OIWC members how to make your way with
confidence.
