New features aim to better serve members with professional development resources and networking opportunities at your fingertips
OIWC is proud to announce the launch of a newly revamped website at OIWC.org.
The new website, which has been in the works for six months, makes it
easy to find the features that are most important to OIWC members.
We encourage you to take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the new site and its features, and we welcome your feedback and comments.
Website features
News & Resources Easy-to-access
relevant articles on professional and personal topics, with new
resources added daily. Resources include original content from OIWC,
recommended articles from outside sources, recommended websites and
videos, and more. Resources are organized by categories, such as:
Bookstore: In addition, OIWC added an Amazon bookstore
with recommended reads submitted by members and professional
development professionals. And, if you purchase your books through the
OIWC bookstore, OIWC receives a portion of the sale. New books are added
often so check this page when you’re ready for a new read.
Career Center
Looking to network for a job in the outdoor industries? Looking to hire? Bookmark the OIWC Career Center to browse:
And, be sure to post your openings in the Career Center as well. Openings are FREE for OIWC corporate members, and $150/post/month for all others.
Online Community
Through
the front-end search of OIWC members and the reorganized online
regional communities, OIWC members have access to a strong online
network of nearly 1,500 OIWC members. The three main ways to take
advantage of these features are:
Member Search:
Met somebody at an OIWC event but can’t quite remember their name? Read
about a promotion and want to send a congratulatory note? Search the
OIWC membership database by name, company, regional community, city, zip
code and more.
"My Membership” Section:
As a signed-in member to the OIWC website, you can customize your
online experience and make it easy to quickly access the information and
connections that are most important to you.
Profile:
Let others members get to know you. Upload a photo, add your education
and professional information, attach your resume, and more.
Groups: Easily access your regional communities; once you join a community it will appear under this list.
Networks:
For social media mavens, you can list your various profiles (Facebook,
LinkedIn, etc) and find other members’ profiles as well.
Favorites:
From almost any page in the OIWC site, click the star near the top to
mark that page a ‘favorite,’ then visit your favorites section for easy
access to your pages. This is a great way to mark professional
development resources that are especially valuable to you, or pages you
visit frequently, such as ‘member discounts.’
Connections:
Keep track of the network you develop through OIWC by asking other
members to be a ‘connection,’ then visit the connections section of ‘my
membership’ to easily access their profile.
Membership Info:
Not sure when you originally joined OIWC? Wondering when your
membership is up for renewal? This section tracks your history with
OIWC.
Refer a Friend:
You find value in your OIWC membership and want to encourage others to
join, right? Now, the OIWC website makes it easy for you to spread the
message. Click Refer a Friend, type in email addresses, and voila!
You’ve helped friends and colleagues learn about the values of OIWC.
Online Regional Community:
Every member selects a primary regional community when they join, and
instantly becomes part of an online network of OIWC members. With the
revamp of the website, OIWC reorganized the Regional Communities into
two parts: specific areas where OIWC is currently hosting events, and
larger regions of the country where members are more spread out
geographically. Every Regional Community includes:
Group Directory
Forum for discussion
Calendar of webinars and local events (if you are in a region where OIWC is currently hosting events)
News items related to your region or members in your region
OIWC Events
OIWC has grown from
three regional events in 2008 to 25 events in 2011, and has added
quarterly webinars as well. With a new section focused on events, you
can find:
Types of Events:
Get an understanding of the differences between Education Series,
Network Nights, Executive Series, Interview Series, and more.
Calendar of Events: OIWC posts event details as soon as they are available, so check this page often for new events and to reserve your spot.
Leadership Awards
Each year, OIWC
recognizes six outstanding women with one of two leadership awards. Now,
nominations are accepted year-round, and if you ever need a dose of
inspiration, you can visit this section to read about past recipients.
To round out the new website, OIWC added an easy to digest "Get Involved" page with ways you can get more involved with OIWC and take advantage of your membership. These include:
Information on Volunteering:
With over 100 active volunteers, volunteering is a great way to
strengthen your network, learn more about OIWC, and support other women
in the industries.
Submit News or Recommended Resources:
Individual or corporate members can submit their own news or
recommended Professional Development resources, which will then be
shared to all OIWC members via the News & Resources section,
Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Certain criteria apply.
Speak your Mind:
Once or twice each month, OIWC asks members their thoughts on issues
related to the workplace, a specific professional development topic, and
more. When you take the survey, you will see what others think
instantaneously.
Member Discounts: OIWC members get deep discounts with many outdoor companies, including SNEWS, Cascade Designs, Haiku, and more.
Corporate Members:
Curious to learn what companies are involved in OIWC? The OIWC homepage
spotlights two corporate members, plus you can peruse the entire list
of current corporate members and learn more about each company.
