The Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) is hosting two events in the Pacific Northwest to provide an opportunity for networking, education and discussion surrounding the group’s recently launched online guide entitled, The OIWC Guide to Turning Your Passion into Your Profession, sponsored by KEEN Footwear and plum.

The events will open and close with networking sessions, recap The OIWC Guide, and via a panel discussion offer insight from local, influential women on how to succeed in the workplace and hone new business skills.

“The Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition is excited to share our Guide and offer these networking and professional development opportunities to Portland and Seattle. In such outdoor-focused communities, we hope these events encourage, educate and facilitate those women interested in turning a love for the outdoors into a prosperous and successful career,” said Sally Grimes, executive director of the OIWC. “The OIWC appreciates the local sponsors—without their support this event would not be possible. Thank you Keen Footwear, Columbia Sportswear, plum, Twenty Four Seven, Yakima, Filson, Outdoor Research, ExOfficio, Schoeller, Cascade Designs, REI, and Moving Comfort.”

The events are sponsored by the OIWC Education Foundation, designed to aid all women and generate champions across all outdoor industries. To support these and other similar events, donate to the Foundation today.

I attended the Seattle event and it really delivered! The panelists were motivational and told personal, relevant stories from their own career experience, on how they juggled to make it all happen. Their honesty was humbling. I think it is amazing that we tend to think that others are so put together, but there is always an element of 'fake it til you make it'. We think that of ourselves, but in their honesty, the panelist revealed this thought is in all of us. Yet it was clear by their success, that each has executed flawlessly. As one panel member joked, she'd judge the decisions she'd make about her kids by asking if doing this particular thing might make them an axe murderer. If the answer was 'no', well, it was pizza again for supper. or breakfast for supper, or whatever got her family beyond that obstacle de jour and on to the next thing. 'Don't sweat the small stuff and stay focused' was her mantra. A great evening of advice and networking.
